What should you check on your dust collector before small problems turn into bigger ones?
In this Primed Insight, we walk through a simple five-minute dust collector checklist covering key areas operators should monitor to help keep their system operating properly.
Start by checking the differential pressure gauge and confirming that each pulse deck is actually firing when the pulse board indicates it should. Listen for the solenoid click or burst of air through the filters.
Next, inspect your dust drums. Overfilled drums or excess dust sitting in the base of the collector can cause dust to continually circulate through the system and prematurely plug the filters.
You’ll also learn the recommended pulse air pressure discussed in the video — below 94 PSI but no less than 85 PSI — along with why operators should listen for unusual motor noises or excessive RPMs.
Finally, don’t overlook your dust collector seals and joints. Moisture entering around the header tank, housing, door seals, or bottom drum can wet the filters and cause premature filter failure, especially when the dust collector is stored outdoors.
