How a 3.5 Combo Micro Pressure Release Blast Pot Works

  • Video Transcript

Today we’re going to be talking about how your 3.5 combo micro pressure release Blast Pot works.

The way this works is that we have the air coming in through this fitting here. The air comes in through a little moisture separator to take out any residual moisture in your line. It then gives us a signal to here. This is called your combo valve. This is your feed air to your deadman, and it’s really important you get this right.

What you’ll find is the feeder will come to your deadman. Make sure you connect it to where the arrow is. Then, when you activate your deadman handle by pressing this down, what will happen is your return air. This black line will come down to the combo valve here. It will feed in and open up this piston, which will then pinch your exhaust hose. When this hose is pinched, it will pressurize your blast pot and feed abrasive into your airstream.

Remember, this is an equal pressure pot. Your air inside the blast pot and your pusher line must all be equal pressure. If it’s not equal pressure, speak to a BlastOne representative to help you problem-solve issues with your blast pot.

One of the problems people have on their blast pot with differential pressure is the choke valve here. When we look at the choke valve, it’s really important that when blasting, this is fully open. Some blasters partially crack this because sometimes the blasting pressure is too great. What happens then is we reduce the pressure in the pusher line. The pressure in the blast pot can then become greater than the pressure in the pusher line, which forces abrasive down through your micro valve and causes premature wear of the pipe at the bottom of your micro valve, or the seals in your micro valve.

So remember, when blasting for equal pressure, make sure your choke valve is always fully open.
