THE CHALLENGE
Norship, Northern Australia’s leading marine service provider, needed a better solution for managing larger blasting and painting projects. Before the new facility was built, larger projects were blasted within a temporary encapsulation.
As a maritime services provider supporting commercial, government, and defence sectors, Norship required a more efficient and controlled environment capable of accommodating larger vessels and components while improving site cleanliness, workflow, and productivity.
WHY NORSHIP CHOSE BLASTONE
As a long-term BlastOne customer, Norship knew they could rely on BlastOne to deliver a solution built around productivity, containment, and operational efficiency.
Norship needed a solution that could boost productivity, solve containment challenges, and support the scale of their maritime work. Guided by our Performance 3 promise, they knew BlastOne could deliver solutions that are faster, safer, and cleaner.
They weren’t simply looking for a building. They were looking for a true blast facility. Norship trusted that BlastOne would see beyond the shell and design a production-focused facility, applying small but strategic optimisations that would deliver exponential gains in performance, efficiency, and long-term value.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Improve dust containment for large blasting projects
Reduce blasting downtime during pot refills
Increase airflow and maintain a controlled working environment
Conserve dehumidified air through recirculation
Support larger-scale blasting and painting operations
Provide a purpose-built facility for long-term operational efficiency
THE BLASTONE SOLUTION
BlastOne supplied a purpose-built blasting and painting hall for Norship’s operations in Cairns. The facility provides a more controlled environment for larger blasting projects, improves dust containment, and reduces downtime through a streamlined blast pot refill process.

FINAL RESULT
The new hall measures 63.75m long, 18m wide, and approximately 30m high at its highest point, giving Norship the scale needed to support larger blasting and painting projects. By moving from temporary blasting encapsulation to a dedicated blasting and painting hall, Norship now benefits from a more efficient, controlled, and productive environment. The facility has significantly improved dust containment, reduced refill downtime, and enhanced overall workflow efficiency.
