How to Prevent Blast Pot Overfilling in Abrasive Blasting

  • Video Transcript

Today, we’re going to talk about one of the problems that a lot of customers ask us about — issues with overfilling their blast pot, either during blasting operations or when they have an overhead bin set up to fill it automatically when they shut down.

If you’ve got a blast pot underneath an overhead bin, make sure that you feed the abrasive directly into the center of your blast pot. You should have a lid on it, along with a mesh screen, and underneath that, install a spider plate above your mushroom. This setup will help avoid overfilling your blast pot.

So, to recap: make sure your abrasive hose feeds directly into the center feed of your blast pot. Use a mesh screen to remove any foreign materials that may come back into the system. Blasters love to throw earplugs into the system, which can block it up, so the screen helps prevent that. Then use a spider plate as an added safeguard.
